Cosy Snug Herefordshire
This was a project on a tight budget. We were asked to look at adding detail to the room as it didn’t have much other than the fireplace which we were not allowed to change and a 60” TV screen which was sacred, some storage solutions were required along with new carpets, curtains and re-upholstery.
We managed to achieve as much as we could but unfortunately, we didn’t get to re-upholster the sofa it just pushed the budget way over and the client decided to do everything else and leave the re-upholstery for a later date.
The main constraints with the budget were predominantly the scale of the room, this room is 5.5m x 6.5m with a ceiling height of 3.2m so we needed a lot of everything. The joinery was designed to house, our clients own items, photo albums, old books, DVD’s, charging points, media centre and with a ceiling height of 3.7m we decided to take the joinery up to the ceiling to utilise this and give some grandness to the otherwise boxy room. But one thing we did was we made the base of the joinery 600mm deep which meant we’d gone from a possible large carpet order with a lot of waste to a smaller amount with no waste, this saved the client a lot of money which we put towards refurbishing the existing radiators and having them powder coated to our requirements.
The antique Rosewood armchair is our clients own but has been re-upholstered in a black and grey cut velvet stripe. We hope the sofa will be recovered soon and when its complete we’ll repost the interior shots with the new sofa.
We’ve used a herringbone flat weave Crucial Trading carpet and the curtains are fabrics from Laura Ashley and a lovely aubergine bobble trim running down the leading edge and along the bottom of the upholstered box pelmet adds a lovely bit of detail. Understated but very elegant.
The walls are painted with a Fired Earth emulsion Cleopatra’s Nose and the woodwork and ceiling are in Fired Earth Canvas.
This room is a family snug and its where our client and their family spend a lot of time so it was important to incorporate some style and a colour concept that reflects a cosy room that you can curl up in.
